About Juice Festival

This year Team Juice has been inspired by Freedom City 2017- a city-wide programme across Newcastle marking the 50th anniversary of Dr Martin Luther King Jnr receiving an honorary
degree from Newcastle University.

In response to the three issues of War, Poverty and Racism, Team Juice has created Our Time, (Saturday 21 October) an after-hours night at Great North Museum: Hancock. A party full of music, performances, installations and workshops, celebrating how young people can take inspiration from the past and present to shape the future.

What Once was Ours (Friday 27 October) at Northern Stage, created against the background of Brexit, has been developed in consultation with young people across the country and uses their direct words and opinions to explore how politics and national values impact on the complex lives of one family.

Inspired by the theme of freedom, pupils from primary schools across Gateshead have been working with artists to develop their own ideas to create illustrations of mythical characters and imaginary places. Illustrate (Friday 20 – Saturday 28 October) will take place at Gateshead Central Library.
