About The Word – Respect School Rap Group Concerts
THE WORD is a multi-award-winning hip hop school group with Chemistry teacher Amer Sheikh as the rapper and his talented students as backing singers and dancers with this novel voluntary group. Themes explored using their original and positive rap music are anti-racism, bullying, respect for difference, discrimination, anti-social behaviour and inspiring young people to follow their aspirations.
This social, cultural and educational project started over 10 years ago and has performed at over 350 events across the country to approximately 100 000 young people and adults.
THE WORD will be showcasing their new anthem track for Freedom City events marking the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech about poverty, war and racism. Celebrity sporting guests will be invited on stage to discuss topics as role models in society. The highly interactive concert will use song, dance, music videos to address hard hitting issues in an informative and novel way.
Teaching of community cohesion and British Values is a statutory requirement of all schools. Primary, secondary, special schools and colleges students studying PSHE, religious education, history, music and performing arts will enjoy being entertained and educated at their first rap concert at a prestigious concert venue!
