About The Word – Respect School Rap Group Concerts

A live rap show to commemorate the 50 year anniversary of
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s visit to University of Newcastle
and his speech about war, poverty and racism.

THE WORD is a school hip hop group comprising of a local Chemistry teacher as the rapper and his students as backing singers. The social, cultural and educational project was founded over 10 years ago to address issues as racism, bullying, respect for difference, anti social behaviour and to inspire young people to follow their aspirations.

Multi award winning THE WORD has recorded their album of original tracks, directed several professional music videos, short films and produced a teaching&learning resource tool kit for schools. They have performed to over 100 000 people across the United Kingdom at assemblies, diversity, charity, multi cultural, sporting, conferences, festivals and corporate events.

THE WORD are proud to be part of the city wide celebrations to commemorate the auspicious occasion of Dr. Luther King’s visit to Newcastle. The group will be showcasing their respect agenda concerts with a host of talented young people from local schools and a live instrumental band.  The group will launch their new anthem track especially commissioned for this historical occasion dealing with Dr. King’s message of poverty, war and racism.

The two hour set is an informative and entertaining collection of live tracks, music videos, dance, junior school choir, crowd interaction and celebrity guests.
